Speed Limits

The 50 km/h speed limit applies to roads within Eko Atlantic City and forms part of the city's traffic and road-safety requirements. All motorists using the city's roads are expected to drive responsibly, observe posted speed restrictions, and remain in control of their vehicles at all times.

Maximum Speed Limit
Motorists must not exceed 50 km/h on roads where the 50 km/h limit applies. The limit is intended to provide a safe operating speed for an urban environment where vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, construction activities, and service operations may share the road network.

Where a lower speed limit is displayed through road signage or temporary traffic controls, motorists must comply with the lower limit.

Drive According to Road Conditions
The 50 km/h limit is a maximum speed, not a required driving speed. Motorists should reduce their speed whenever conditions make it unsafe to travel at the maximum permitted speed.

This includes situations involving heavy traffic, poor visibility, wet or slippery roads, construction activities, temporary road diversions, pedestrian activity, or any obstruction that may require additional reaction time.

Give Special Attention to Pedestrians
Drivers should exercise particular caution around pedestrian crossings, intersections, access points, walkways, and areas with significant pedestrian movement.

Maintaining an appropriate speed allows motorists to identify potential hazards earlier and gives them sufficient time to slow down or stop when necessary.

Exercise Caution Around Construction Areas
As an active development, Eko Atlantic City has areas where construction vehicles, equipment, workers, and temporary traffic arrangements may be present.

Motorists approaching construction zones should follow all temporary signs, barriers, traffic directions, and instructions from authorised personnel. Where construction activity affects normal traffic movement, drivers should reduce their speed and proceed with caution.

Avoid Unnecessary Speeding
Exceeding the speed limit reduces the time available to respond to unexpected hazards and increases the distance required to stop safely. It can also increase the consequences of a collision.

Motorists should avoid unnecessary acceleration, aggressive driving, sudden lane changes, and other driving behaviours that may place other road users at risk.

Compliance and Enforcement
The 50 km/h speed limit is part of the city's applicable traffic requirements. Motorists are responsible for knowing and complying with the speed restrictions applicable to the roads they are using.

Where speed monitoring and enforcement measures are in place, motorists who exceed the permitted speed or otherwise contravene applicable traffic regulations may be subject to the relevant enforcement procedures.
