Driving against the designated direction of traffic is not permitted within Eko Atlantic City. All motorists are required to follow the direction of traffic indicated by road signs, lane markings, traffic signals, and other traffic controls.
Follow the Designated Direction
Motorists must drive in the direction assigned to their lane or roadway. Vehicles must not travel against the flow of traffic, use opposing lanes to bypass congestion, or enter roads or lanes where access is restricted.
Do Not Drive Against Traffic to Avoid Delays
Traffic congestion or a desire to reach a destination more quickly does not justify driving against the designated traffic flow. Motorists should remain in their lane, follow the established traffic arrangement, and proceed safely until they can legally change direction or route.
Respect One-Way Roads and Restricted Lanes
Where roads or access routes are designated as one-way, motorists must comply with the direction indicated by the relevant signs and road markings. Entering a one-way road from the wrong direction can create a serious risk of head-on collisions and disrupt the movement of other road users.
Avoid Unauthorised U-Turns and Lane Movements
Motorists should not make U-turns, cross into opposing traffic lanes, or use restricted openings unless such movements are expressly permitted. Drivers should use designated turning points and follow the city's traffic controls.
Safety of Other Road Users
Driving against traffic creates an immediate hazard for motorists travelling in the correct direction and can place pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users at risk. It also reduces the time available for approaching drivers to identify and respond to an unexpected vehicle.
Enforcement and Compliance
Driving against traffic is a traffic violation and may attract enforcement action in accordance with applicable regulations. Vehicles found travelling against the designated traffic flow may be stopped or otherwise dealt with by authorised enforcement personnel.
