Leash & Restraint Requirements

Pet owners and handlers are responsible for keeping animals under proper control whenever they are within public or shared areas of Eko Atlantic City. Dogs and other animals that may pose a risk or nuisance must be appropriately restrained when outside their designated premises.

Keep Pets on a Leash
Dogs and other animals requiring restraint must be kept on a suitable leash when being walked or taken through public areas. Owners and handlers must maintain sufficient control to prevent the animal from approaching, chasing, or interfering with other people or animals.

Maintain Effective Control
A leash must be appropriate for the size and behaviour of the animal and held by a responsible person capable of controlling it. Allowing an animal to roam freely, even temporarily, is not acceptable where it may create a safety risk or nuisance.

Public and Shared Areas
Animals must remain under control on roadsides, walkways, landscaped areas, recreational spaces, and other shared areas. Owners should take particular care around children, pedestrians, cyclists, and other animals.

Prevent Aggressive or Uncontrolled Behaviour
Owners and handlers must take reasonable precautions to prevent animals from biting, chasing, jumping on, or otherwise threatening people or other animals. Animals displaying aggressive or unpredictable behaviour should be securely restrained and managed appropriately.

Responsibility of Owners and Handlers
The person walking or handling an animal is responsible for its behaviour and must respond promptly if it becomes difficult to control. Owners should not leave animals unattended in public areas or in circumstances where they cannot maintain proper control.

Compliance and Enforcement
Failure to properly restrain an animal may result in intervention by municipal or security personnel where the animal poses a nuisance, safety risk, or obstruction. Owners may be required to remove an uncontrolled animal from a public area and may be subject to applicable enforcement measures.
